How do I wash period underwear?

If you are switching from tampons, pads, or a menstrual cup to period underwear, it takes a little time to get into a new routine. Here, you will learn how to properly wash your period underwear, which products are suitable, and what you should look out for in terms of care.

Can I wash dais period underwear in the washing machine?

Yes. Rinse them out by hand with cold water beforehand until the water runs clear. Then, place them in the machine at a maximum of 40 °C. 30 °C is also possible. Lower temperatures are gentler on the materials and help the layers retain their shape.

How to wash your period underwear properly

Step 1: Rinse with cold water.
This washes out most of the blood before the panties go into the machine.

Step 2: Machine wash at a maximum of 40 °C.
It is best to use a liquid detergent, as powder often does not dissolve completely at low temperatures. Avoid fabric softener to maintain absorbency.

Step 3: Let air dry.
Hang the panties on a clothesline or lay them in a dry place. Please do not put them in the dryer.

Step 4: Ready for the next use.
Once dry, you can wear your panties again.

Why rinse with cold water first?

Blood contains proteins. Warm or hot water causes these proteins to coagulate, causing them to set into the fabric. Cold water dissolves blood much better.

Which detergents are suitable?

We recommend a liquid detergent, as it dissolves well even at low temperatures. Since we do not use biocides in our period underwear, you can occasionally add a standard laundry sanitizer. Ensure you do not use detergents with bleach, as these can damage the materials.

Can I wash my period underwear by hand when traveling?

Yes. Soak the panties in cold water for about an hour, then wash them with warm water and a little liquid hand soap, and let them air dry.

Can I wash period underwear with other laundry?

Yes. After rinsing, you can treat them like any other underwear. If it makes you feel more comfortable, use a laundry mesh bag. As always, only wash similar colors together.
